During that time I have learned a lot and I would like to now share that knowledge with you. Essentially, the purpose of this blog is to act as a basecamp for a now under construction book I'm calling The Democracy & Citizenship Book.
In this book, I will be examining the eroding state of democracy and citizenship in our country as a result of fewer and fewer people voting, fewer and fewer people attending governmental meetings. Mind you these are the very same entities that spend your taxes, provide services and pretty much shape the quality of life in our communities.
Piling on top of this has been a sharp diminution of the news media which means a lot of these bodies and agencies don't get covered. That, in turn, has led to a marked increase in corruption and wrongdoing by our elected officials.
While the pundits in DC and Sacramento may say "duh," I contend that most folks don't really get how serious this situation has become.
